2019년 서울시 문화비축기지에서 열리는 Wider West 전시는 미국 텍사스 주에서 활동하는 여덟분의 예술가들을 초대해 이들의 작품 총 164점을 선보입니다. 이 전시에 상응하는 Deeper East 전시는, 2020년 5월 텍사스 주 어스틴의 빅미디움과 어스틴 중앙도서관에서 한국의 예술가들을 소개하게 됩니다. 두 전시 모두 각각의 초대 작가에게 대형 고화질 평면 디스플레이를 할당해 이들의 작품을 선보입니다.
Wider West is being held in Seoul in the Oil Tank Culture Park featuring 164 artworks from eight Texas-based artists invited. As a corresponding exhibition program, Deeper East will be held in Austin at Big Medium and Austin Central Library in May of 2020 showcasing Korea-based artists. The art in both exhibitions will be presented on large high-quality flat panel displays dedicated to each artist.
본 전시 프로그램들의 중심 테마는 드넓은 텍사스 주에 퍼져있는 다양한 예술을 접하고 이러한 예술적 다양성이 어떻게 한국 예술의 사회적, 문화적, 그리고 이데올로기적 차이점들과 유사점들과 교차되는지를 생각해 볼 수 있는 기회를 제공하리라 희망합니다.
The key theme of these exhibitions is exploring the diversity of art made across the vast state of Texas offering a great opportunity to think about how such diverse artistic practices intersect with the social, cultural, and ideological differences and similarities with the artistic practices in Korea.
