FOR OUR FUTURE
Greta Therenburg is a 16-year girl from Stockholm who strikes every Friday from school until her country agrees to the terms in the Paris Climate Accord and makes a plan to reduce their carbon emissions. Since she began, millions of other students across the globe have joined her efforts to hold politicians accountable. With this small monument to the youth movement #FridaysforFuture, I ask that you walk through, leaving some of your bad, anti-eco habits behind and start being courageous in fight for our future.
More and more dead whales are washing up along shorelines, with bellies full of plastic bags. Equipped with a crochet needle, my hands, and the help of my extended community, this ongoing series diverts hundreds of plastic bags from our oceans. My materials and imagery remind us that consumer choices have a profound impact.
My grandfather was the lead art director behind the creation of the Exxon Tiger and would draw the original character for me growing up. Many corporations use images of endangered species to signify their brand, pervading our cultural with symbols of rare animals. Will we remember extinct species in their true form or only as representations from consumer culture?
